Born 1950, respectively the grandson, son and nephew of three well known artists – Charles (1868-1939) Stuart (1908-1983) and Peggy (1918-1975) Somerville at Newbourne Hall, Suffolk, one of the finest Tudor & Stuart manor houses in the county where I still live.
I have an art history BA (hons) degree from the University of East Anglia. I am a former Director of Sothebys where I worked from 1973 – 1992 in the Old Master Paintings Department. I remained as a Consultant there until 2000 and since then have been an independent fine art consultant.
My field of expertise includes:-
Valuation of all pictures and works of art for the following purposes:
Sale, Insurance, Probate & Family Division.
Cataloguing established as well as new collections.
I also undertake valuations and advise in connection with both capital and estate taxes including Acceptance In Lieu and Private Treaty Sales.
Historic & period interiors and their decoration.
